Udupi, Sep 5: The Uchila Youth Friends organisation would be arranging the wedding of two poor women at the Community Hall in Koplangady near Kaup on September 7.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Rahim Abbu Uchila, president of the organisation, said they had been conducting weddings of poor women since 2012. In 2012, the organisation had organised the weddings of two Muslim women and provided them each with gold ornaments of five sovereigns. In 2013, it had organised the wedding of four Muslim women and given them four sovereigns of gold ornaments.
This year it would be organising the wedding of two poor Muslim women and providing them five sovereigns of gold ornaments. The cost of the ceremony and other expenses was estimated at Rs. 6 lakh. The organisation had raised funds for the weddings through donations from philanthropists. “Other communities too should follow this example and get poor girls married,” he said.
Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, U.T. Khadar, Health Minister, M.P. Moideenabba, president of District Minorities Forum, would be among those present.
