
Udupi, May 30: A total of 21 couples from the Mogaveera community entered into wedlock at a mass marriage ceremony jointly organised by G Shankar Family Trust and Mogaveera Youth Association, Udupi at Ambalpady on Thursday.
President of the trust Dr G Shankar and Shyamili Shankar handed over garments and traditional gold ornaments to each couple who tied the knot.
The marriage rituals were performed by priest of Udupi Shree Anantheshwara temple Swami Vedavyasa Aithal. The mass marriage was witnessed by members of the Mogaveera community in good numbers.
Youth Association president Sadananda Balkur was present on the occasion.
This is the sixth time since 2009 that the organisations have jointly arranged a simple mass wedding for couples.
In the first year, 59 couples tied the knot in 2009, 25 couples in 2010, 11 couples in 2011, 10 couples in 2012 and 24 couples in 2013 in dowry-free marriage ceremonies.
