Udupi: BJP wins Kundapur TMC, Saligrama TP; independent to be kingmaker in Karkala TMC

Udupi, Sept 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party, which wrested Udupi City Municipal Council from Congress, also exhibited brilliant performance in other three urban local body elections in the coastal district.

The saffron party has won in elections for local bodies of Kundapur Town Municipal Council (TMC) and Saligrama Town Panchayat.

Of a total of 23 seats in Kundapur TMC, the BJP bagged 14 seats, Congress 8 and independent 1.

In Saligrama Town Panchayat, the BJP won 10 seats, Congress 5 and independent - 1. The total strength of the house is 16.

Of a total of 23 wards in Karkala Town Municipal Council (TMC), the Congress and BJP won 11 seats each, while one has gone to an independent candidate, who is a BJP rebel candidate.

In previous polls (2013), the Congress had pipped the BJP by one seat in the Karkala TMC. The Congress had won 12 seats as against the BJP’s 11 seats.
