Udupi, Apr 7: A family of five from Uppoor K G Road in Udupi which was stranded in war-torn Yemen reached India on Monday.
Prema, a resident of KG Road in Uppoor her sister Saroja (48), sister’s husband Ganesh Rao (48), kids Sagar (10) and Sneha (8) have reached Mumbai. After completing nursing course in Manipal, Prema and Saroja joined a hospital in Yemen and were serving there for the last 20 years.

She said their family boarded a flight from Sana’a that was arranged by the Indian Embassy on Sunday.
“The Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs helped us a lot. Many Indian are still stranded in Yemen and there is shortage of food and petrol,” he said.
“My company has said that they would either call us back if things settled down there or shift us to some other branch in the Middle-East,” Mr. Rao said.
After working in Manipal, Prema married Prafulchandra of Uppoor and the couple were residing in Yemen. However, Prafulchandra returned to his native along with their son 10 years ago.
Prema’s sister Saroja along with family was residing in Yemen. Ganesh was serving as an accountant in a oil firm. The kids Sagar and Sneha were also studying in Yemen.
“Owing to trouble, hospitals and oil firms have closed down. There was a blast near their house four days ago. With the blessings of the almighty, they have reached India. They will be staying in relatives house in Mumbai will return to Udupi after a few days,” said Raghavendra Uppoor, a relative of the family.
