Udupi, Mar 31: Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports and Udupi district in-charge, Pramod Madhwaraj has decided to file a defamation suit against seasonal RTI activist T.J. Abraham, at the court here.

Mr. Abraham had recently alleged that Mr. Madhwaraj had mortgaged three acres and eight cents of land in Uppoor village, allegedly valued at Rs. 1.1 crore, and obtained a loan of Rs. 193 crore from the Malpe branch of Syndicate Bank in Udupi district.
He also alleged that the loan taken was disproportionate to the value of the mortgaged lands offered as collateral.
Madhwaraj had threatened Mr. Abraham with a Rs. 10 crore defamation suit, if a public apology was not issued on the loan issue. However, Mr. Abraham had challenged Mr. Madhwaraj to go ahead with the defamation suit.
Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Madhwaraj said that he had sought some documents with regard to Mr. Abraham under the RTI Act from Delhi. “As soon as these are available, I have given instructions to my advocate to file a defamation suit against Mr. Abraham,” he said.
On Mr. Abraham’s statement that if the defamation suit was not filed within 30 days, he (Mr. Abraham) would file a case against Mr. Madhwaraj, the Minister, said that he would decide when the defamation suit had to be filed.
