Kundapur, Aug 24: The Karnataka state government, which stands for a secular outlook, has introduced several progressive programmes over the past two-and-a-half years towards ensuring social justice to all classes of people in the society, said Minister for Urban Development and Udupi district in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake.

Speaking at a felicitation programme of elected members of gram panchayats in Kundapur taluk, organised by the taluk unit of Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkoota, here on Sunday, he said that member of panchayat and Member of Parliament were both elected representatives, elected by the same pool of voters. Hence, a panchayat member's duty and work occupies the same importance. He should work as per the expectations of the people, he said.
Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkoota president Ashfaq Ahamed presided over the programme.
Kundapur MLA Gopala Poojary, MLC Pratapchandra Shetty, businessman Shaikh Ansar Ahmed, taluk panchayat member Raju Poojary, Muslim Okkoota member Naqwa Yahya, Abu Muhammed Kundapur and several others were present.
Elected members in various gram panchayats in Kundapur taluk, from the Muslim community were felicitated in the programme.
Kundapur taluk unit president of the Union Sardar Gulwadi welcomed the gathering, while secretary Hussain Haikadi proposed a vote of thanks.
