Kundapur, Oct 16: Two Bajrang Dal activists were reportedly attacked by a small group of youth in retaliation for shouting inflammatory slogans at Janata Colony in Kandlur in Udupi district.

In connection with the assault, Kundapur police have arrested Shahid (28), Suhan (21) and Nadeem (19), residents of Kandlur.
It is reported that while they were posting banners and flex hoardings for Sharada Mahothsava at a late hour on Wednesday night, a few Bajrang Dal activists reached Janata Colony on two motorcycles and began shouting provocative slogans at a late hour on Wednesday night.
Following a confrontation between two groups in this regard, two of the activists were allegedly assaulted with swords.
Meanwhile, the locals in Kandlur allege that the persons who arrived and shouted inflammatory slogans in the residential colony were outsiders who wanted to disrupt the peaceful environment in the region.
Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje visited the victims in the hospital and urged that the culprits should be arrested.
Following the incident, a tense atmosphere prevailed in the communally-sensitive village of Kandloor and police security arrangements were made.
Police DySP Manjunath Shetty, Byndoor circle inspector Diwakar and Kundapur SI Nassir Hussain visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
Two separate cases of assault and insult to religion have been registered in Kundapur police station.
