Mangaluru, Oct 16: Three women who had come to Syed Madani Dargah in Ullal were rescued by local swimmers at Mogaveerapanta beach on the outskirts of the city on Friday afternoon.
The rescued women have been identified as Noorjahan (45) and Nafiya (30), from Bengaluru and their relative Khairunnisa (28) from Madikeri.
They were part of a 10 members group that had visited the beech after offering prayers at Dargah.
When the family members were playing in the water, three among them were washed away by a high tide.
The other members in the group started screaming after three women disappeared along with the high tide that hit them.
A few local swimmers, who witnessed the tragedy, immediately jumped into water and started a rescue operation.
Deekshit Karkera, Shivan Bangera, Dhanraj Putran, Roshan Suvarna, Sudheer and Kishor were the swimmers who saved the trio from drowning.
Two of the rescued women have been admitted into a hospital in nearby Thokkottu town. The third woman, who was in a critical condition, has been shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.
The bravery and humanity of local swimmers, who endangered their own lives to save the lives of three Muslim women, was have been applauded by local residents.
It is worth mentioning here that the same beech had witnessed clashes between members of different communities for trivial reasons in recent months.
