The damaged stall belonged to Ismail, a resident of Kaiko in Ullal. The area had witnessed a series of communal attacks and immoral policing in recent days.
The miscreants have taken out the items that had been stored in the small stall, smashed the soda bottles that were inside, and damaged the stall further by tearing away the tarpaulin that covered the stall.
It is said that the damage caused a loss of approximately Rs 40,000 to the stall owner. A case has been registered at Ullal police station in this regard.
It is learnt that Ismail had been selling tender coconut and charmuri at the stall from over 15 years at the seashore in Mogaveera Patna. Hailing from a poor background, he had been supporting his family and earning his livelihood from the sales made with the stall.
Now, as a result of damage caused to the stall by miscreants, he is left with no alternative source of income to feed his family.
Noting that the three other stalls located in the close vicinity of Ismail's stall were not damaged, the locals have been alleging that the act was a deliberate attempt by miscreants to spoil the communal harmony in the area.
