Bengaluru, Mar 6: Kannada superstar Upendra, who had recently took a political plunge by (re)launching a three year old Karnataka Pragnyavantha Janatha Party (KPJP), has quit the party following differences with the party founder Mahesh Gowda and other leaders.
After tendering his resignation, the actor on Tuesday and announced that he will form a new political party, ‘Prajakeeya’. However, rumours doing rounds that he may join Bharatiya Janata Party along with his supporters.
Though many people believe that that KPJP was founded by Upendra, the party was actually registered with the Election Commission in 2015 by Mahesh Gowda, an industrialist. Being an ardent fan of Upendra, he had gifted the party to Upendra, who (re)launched it formally on October 31, 2017.
However, now Gowda and many other party leaders are upset with the dictatorial attitude of Upendra. Gowda has claimed that Upendra sidelined him from party programmes.
After talks failed between Upendra and Gowda, the actor walked out of the meeting and announced his decision. “I have resigned from all the posts of KPJP. I will form a new political party along with the people who support my agenda,” he said. The meeting was held at Ruppi’s Resort near Ramohalli on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
On the other hand KPJP sources said that Upendra was secretly lobbying for BJP ticket in the next assembly polls. His followers feel that he has already given enough hints and may finally go with Prime Minister Narendra Modi whom he idolizes.
