New York, Nov 11: UT Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Minister from Karnataka represented his state at a global health meet hosted by Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor of New York in United States of America.

Delegates from over 15 countries took part in the two-day meet held in New York including representatives of United Nations, World Health Organsation, UNION, World Bank and several governments.
The key focus of the meeting was to discuss on global sustainable goals in health with focus on non communicable diseases, tobacco and implementation of FCTC. The meeting emphasized on the need for countries to implement the Framework Convention of Tobacco Control- international public health treaty.
Mr Khader, participated as a guest speaker, panelist for a discussion on mass media and health awareness and also participated in round table meetings with several counties to share his experiences.
During a breakfast meeting with former New York Mayor, Mr Khader discussed and shared his thoughts about how he is taking steps to tackle issues of NCD issues in Karnataka and how other countries would take inspiration from these steps.
Several counties applauded efforts of the health minister such as taking steps to ban gutka, implementation of tobacco control act and addressing farmers’ issues. Global road safety experts in meeting appreciated the concept of bike ambulance.
Mr Khader was invited to Memorial Sloan Kettering - one the world best cancer Center, where he met the Head of services and discussed about their health care systems. He also discussed about several preventive initiatives. Later he met Kannadigas in New York. Cancer society of US would be hosting the next cancer congress in Karnataka in 2017.
