Mangaluru, Jun 10: Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader has urged the state government withdraw cases against dozens of innocents, who were booked in the aftermath of communal flare up in Ullal, Mogaveerapattana and surrounding areas in Mangaluru taluk in 2014.

The minister’s demand came days after state cabinet decided to withdraw cases registered against dozens of Popular Front of India activists during the communal riots in Mysuru in 2009 as well as Shivamogga and Hassan in 2010.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Wednesday, Mr Khader said that around 70 to 80 innocents were booked by the police in the aftermath of communal clashes in Ullal region.
“The police had booked cases against them to ensure that the mob is controlled and the communal riot did not spread to other parts of the district,” he said.
He said that the real culprits must be tried in the court of law. However, innocents who were booked to curb the communal flare up, must not be harassed further and cases should against them should be withdrawn.
