Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr Shetty said that the self-declared bandh was met with much success across the entire district on Monday. The agitation that was raised by this platform has grown into a people 's movement.
It is the duty of the people of Dakshina Kannada to keep the movement alive till the project is abandoned by the Government of Karnataka,” he said, calling on all like-minded groups and organisations in the district, including religious leaders, to carry the movement forward by showing their objection to the Nethravati project through public announcements or statements daily.
Flaying the chief minister of Karnataka for providing false information about the project during its foundation-laying ceremony in Chikkaballapur district on Monday, he challenged that the state government would be unsuccessful in complete implementation of the proposed project even in ten years.
Appealing to the citizens of Dakshina Kannada not to let the movement wilt, said that the Samiti had submitted a public interest litigation against the project in the High Court on the grounds that it was not a minor irrigation project as the government claimed.
U T Khader should resign as Kolar in-charge minister '
Speaking on the occasion, activist M G Hegde said that the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the government on the Yettinahole project was a bogus one.
Flaying the health minister and local MLA UT Khader for indulging in twisted politics, he said that the minister was trying to sail in two boats at the same time.
“Mr Khader should honour the wishes of the people of Dakshina Kannada and support them in their fight to save the Nethravati river. He should resign from his post as the district in-charge minister for Kolar, or else he will lose the support of the people from his hometown,” he countered.
Crediting the various unions for the success of the bandh on Monday, he said that people had shown their anger towards the government and its project through their support in the bandh.
