Mangalore, Jun 8: A violent fight erupted at district sub-jail in Mangalore between policemen and under-trials on Sunday morning, which left at least a dozen people injured including four policemen.
ACP Tilakchandra, SI Shareef, inspector Maledevar were among the injured. They have been rushed to a hospital in the city for the treatment after the incident.
The fight erupted after sleuths from Barke Police Station in the city entered the prison to shift two notorious criminals-Falak and Faisal-to Dharwad jail.
The duo said to be members of Ullal based notorious 'target group' which used to blackmail rich youth after forcing them to have sex with unknown girls.
All of a sudden dozens of under-trials including notorious criminals pounced on the jail officers and police, who had come to shift the two accused.
Few of the prison inmates went on to the extent of throwing chilli powder and other things on the police to prevent them from shifting the prisoners, sources said.
It is learnt that at least eight prisoners also sustained injuries during the brawl. More details awaited
