Jeddah, Jun 10: Reports that visit visas to Saudi Arabia could be converted into residency permits have been denied as “baseless”.

He issued the denial after several foreigners, acting upon reports circulated online, contacted the various offices and sections of the Passports Department seeking to change their status from visitors to residents.
All foreigners are urged to receive correct information and news about procedures related to their status from official sites, including the Passports site, Al Hussain said, local media reported on Monday.
The spokesperson expressed the hope that all people acquire all the facts and information before “making their moves” in order to save time and energy.
“All matters related to visit and other visas are available and clearly presented,” he said.
According to some sites, the visa conversion allegations emerged amid rumours that Syrians facing security issues in their war-torn country could benefit from their presence in Saudi Arabia on visit visas to gain residency in the kingdom.
Several activists and lawmakers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have called for easing visit and residency restrictions on Syrians in a bid to help ensure they do not have to suffer the tragedies in their home country.
The GCC, founded in 1981, brings together Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
