Chikkamagaluru, Aug 9: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said the Congress would retain power after the next Assembly elections and neither B.S. Yeddyurappa nor H.D. Kumaraswamy would become his successor.

He was addressing a gathering on the seventh death anniversary of former MLA K.M. Krishnamurthy in Kadur. He said in the past four years, the Congress has delivered on its pre-poll promises. “We still have eight months of rule in the State and will fulfil the remaining promises in the next budget. We have already fulfilled 155 of 165 promises and have won the hearts of the people by keeping our word,” he said.

Commenting on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr. Siddaramaiah said when the party was in power, many of its Cabinet leaders, including the then CM, had landed in prison for their misdeeds. “People have not yet forgotten their misrule in the State. Neither the BJP nor the JD(S) has any moral right to speak about farmers as they did little for them when in power,” he said.

On the Upper Bhadra project, the CM said 80% of the work has been completed and an amount of ₹580 crore spent on it. “Kadur and Birur towns in the district will also benefit from the project. Former MLA K.M. Krishnamurthy fought for the inclusion of the tanks in Kadur under the Upper Bhadra project. He should get credit for his contribution,” he said, also recalling that despite winning from the constituency four times, Krishnamurthy could not become a Minister.

Congress leaders C.M. Ibrahim, B.L. Shankar, Motamma, K.B. Mallikarjun, K.M. Kemparaju and others were present at the programme.
