Kasaragod, Aug 5: Taking into account official reports that the Kasaragod district has the highest cases of dengue fever in the State, authorities here has decided to embark on a week-long dedicated ward level cleanliness drive from August 10.

The visit revealed that dengue fever cases were prevalent in all the local body limits with the district reporting three deaths this year.
The decision to launch the cleanliness drive, which will continue till August 18, was taken at a meeting held at the Collector’s chamber.
The meeting was attended by senior district and health officials. It was decided to form action committees on August 7 and earmark Rs. 25,000 for each ward utilising the funds received from the National Health Mission, ‘Suchitwa’ mission and the respective local bodies.
The drive will mainly focus on waste management and destruction of mosquito larvae from breeding spots.
It was also decided to avail services of NREGS workers as the dengue cases were found to be more prevalent in rural areas in the district.
The experts also found cases of malaria and rat fever in parts of the district where there is a concentration of migrant labourers.
