Will eliminate communal forces, BJP from Karnataka, says CM

May 17, 2015

Davangere, May 16: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday declared that he would make Karnataka free of BJP and communal forces.

He said this at the Congress rally organised at Davangere to mark the completion of two years of his government.

The rally, attended by scores of party workers atBapuji College ground, turned out to be a show of strength by the ruling Congress. Siddaramaiah shared dias with a host of party leaders including AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi?Azad, Congress floor leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, B K Hariprasad, Oscar Fernandes, and his ministerial colleagues.

The rally held under the banner Sarvodaya Samavesha, also served as a platform for the Congress party to reach out the government’s programmes to the people ahead of the gram panchayat elections. Unmindful of the heavy rains, Siddaramaiah, in a raised voice, spoke for well over an hour.

The chief minister said, “Our workers and supporters would not allow the BJP to again spread its roots in the State. It is impossible for the BJP to make Karnataka free of the Congress. Let the BJP not live under illusion. I am saying this with full confidence.”

Reiterating that he would contest the 2018 assembly elections, Siddaramaiah said that the aim of the party should be to ensure that the Congress continues in power.

Unmindful of criticism, Siddaramaiah said, “I have no hesitation to say that ours is pro-Ahinda government. We are also pro village, pro farmer and pro women. The opposition parties have not been able to digest this reality and feeling jealous.” Taking a dig at the BJP, Siddaramaiah said Jagadish Shettar and Pralhad Joshi have questioned the utility of holding such rally by the Congress. The BJP came to power a year ago. It is answerable to the people of the state whether the party has fulfilled the promises it made during the Lok Sabha elections. Many promises including bringing back black money, special status to Kashmir and uniform civil code were made by the BJP. But none has been fulfilled. “So the BJP has no moral right to question us,” he said.

He also requested the crowd to defeat the BJP supported candidates in the gram panchayat polls and support those who have commitment to give good governance.

Jaundiced eye

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, taking a dig at the Opposition for criticising the pro-poor schemes implemented by the government, said, You (Opposition) keep crowing that the ruling Congress has failed on all fronts. Stop judging achievements through jaundiced eye. Lakhs of poor are having two square meals a day because of Anna Bhagya. About 1.4 crore children are drinking milk under Ksheera Bhagya scheme. Ask the beneficiaries of the schemes and the farmers whose loans have been waived off.

Cong not against N K

Alleging that the Opposition is politicising the issue of development or lack of it in North Karnataka, Siddaramaiah said, "A few legislators in the BJP are trying to portray the Congress government as anti-North Karnataka. Umesh Katti, in particular, to further his political agenda keeps crowing that Congress is doing injustice to the people of North Karnataka."

You (Katti) were minister for five years in BJP government. Why did you not rake up the issue than, questioned Siddaramaiah. The government has given its approval to Dr Nanjundappa Committee Report and has set aside Rs 2,300 crore for the same.

It was Congress-led UPA government at the Centre which accorded special status to Hyderabad-Karnataka region under Article 371(J). The State government has taken steps to fill 31,000 posts in various departments in Hyd-Karnataka region, Siddaramaiah explained. For us people from North Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, plains, South Karnataka are equal. We believe in all-round development of the State, the CM added.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.
