Mangaluru, Dec 24: The arrest of the œwife and œson of fugitive gangster Ravi Pujari at Mumbai International Airport has finally turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

A 42-year-old woman from Borivli along with her teenage son was detained by the immigration authorities at the Mumbai Airport on Monday evening following a Lookout Circular (LoC) issued by the Mangaluru police in 2012.

The woman was detained as she shared the same name that was of the suspect mentioned in the LoC. The LoC had also stated that the woman named is none other than wife of gangster Ravi Pujari.

The high-voltage drama began after one Sridevi Pujari, who stays in Borivli and is a teacher, was detained by the immigration authorities after she, along with her 15-year-old son, was on her way to board a flight for Abu Dhabi on Monday evening to spend a holiday. Interestingly, the name of Ravi Pujari's wife is also Sridevi Pujari. To add to the confusion, her son Aryan shares his name with the gangster's son.

The Mangaluru City police had issued an LoC in 2012 against Sridevi Pujari for her alleged involvement in a case of extorting money from a businessman there. œIn that case, gangster Ravi Pujari and Sridevi Pujari were shown as accused persons, said Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria.

When the Mumbai police informed their Mangaluru counterparts about the detention, the Mangaluru police said that the woman detained by the airport authorities might be Pujari's wife. While Sridevi, a resident of Ekta Cooperative Housing Society in Borivli, was detained by the Sahar police, her son was sent to Dongri children's home.

The Mumbai police then sent three teams to the airport for verification. An inspector working with Mumbai crime branch, who had seen Pujari's wife in 2005, was also called for verification. The inspector clearly stated that the detained woman is not Pujari's wife Padma alias Sridevi. An assistant commissioner of police from Mumbai also stated that he know the detained woman and that she has no criminal background.

œWe were told by Mangaluru police that the detained woman is wife of Ravi Pujari and it was even mentioned in their LoC, said Maria.

On Tuesday, Sridevi was produced before the Andheri metropolitan magistrate court. In the court, Sridevi's husband Santosh Pujari too was present. Later the Mangaluru police also admitted that the detained Sridevi Pujari was not the one they were looking for and let her off as she was a namesake of the suspect in their case.

The Mangaluru police had registered a case case against Sridevi in 2012 under Indian Penal Code sections 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous person), 384 (extortion) and 34 (common intention).

It could be recalled here that former encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma had arrested Ravi Pujari's wife padma in 2005 in fake passport case. She had forged documents to obtain her passport and those of her daughters. She was released on bail after a month, but fled within six months by secretly making another passport from Mangaluru. However, the woman detained in Mumbai on Monday had a passport issued to her in Mumbai, official sources said.

Madikeri: A 15-year-old was bludgeoned to death and the accused fled with her severed head at Mutlu village in Somwarpet of Kodagu district on Thursday late night, hours after her SSLC examination result was declared.

The victim has been identified as US Meena, a 10th grade student of Surlabbi High School. She had passed the SSLC examination and her school attained 100% results.

However, she was brutally murdered by accused Prakash (32), a resident of the village. The police have launched a search operation to find the suspect, said Kodagu SP K Ramarajan

It is said that the minor girl's engagement with the suspect was thwarted by officials from Women and Child Development department on May 9, and later officials had even convinced her parents of not to marry the minor girl.

Mangaluru, May 4: A tragic incident unfurled last evening in Subrahmanya of Kadaba taluk in Dakshina Kananda, where a young gentleman, who had recently entered the bonds of matrimony a mere ten days hence, met his untimely demise due to a lightning strike.

As twilight descended, a tempestuous thunderstorm, accompanied by billowing rain clouds, cast its shadow over the locale.

Somasundar was diligently engaged in the task of piling up dried nuts in the yard to shield them from the impending deluge, when fate cruelly intervened, subjecting him to the fatal force of a lightning bolt.

Despite the expeditious efforts to convey him to Kadaba Community Hospital subsequent to his sudden indisposition, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Somasundar, who operated a car washing enterprise in proximity to Subrahmanya, is mourned by his mother, sister, and wife.

Bengaluru, May 14: JD(S) leader HD Revanna has been released from Parappana Agrahara Jail today, on May 14 after he was granted conditional bail.

He was granted a conditional bail yesterday by a Bengaluru court in connection with a kidnapping case linked to sexual abuse allegation against him and his son Prajwal.

Revanna was arrested on May 4 by Special Investigative Team (SIT) officials in a kidnapping case registered against him at KR Nagar police station in the city. The case is linked to his son and Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna’s mega sex scam.

Representing the JD(S) MLA from Holenarsipura, he termed this case a "political conspiracy" against him.

A SIT, constituted by the Karnataka government, is probing the alleged sexual abuse against against HD Revanna and his son Prajwal Revanna.

Prajwal Revanna, the incumbent MP, is seeking another term from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. The voting for the seat took place on April 26.

Earlier, JD (S) chief HD Kumaraswamy alleged that Karnataka government does not want a fair inquiry.

"They are misusing the office. Nothing is going to happen ultimately. They wanted character assassination of HD Revanna and for that reason, they are using their office," Kumaraswamy told ANI.

Meeting Karnataka Governor Tawara Chanda Gehlot on May 9, a delegation of the Janata Dal (Secular) submitted a memorandum and urged Gehlot to recommend a CBI probe.

Prajwal sill absconding

The JD(S) MP, Prajwal, fled to Germany after Karnataka State Commission for Women Nagalakshmi Chowdhary wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking an investigation into over obscene videos of Prajwal Revanna allegedly sexually abusing several women. He has also skipped summons issued by the SIT to appear before it.

The ‘obscene videos’ involving Prajwal Revanna started making the rounds ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26, triggering a political slugfest.

A lookout notice against Prajwal Revanna has been issued at all airports in India, along with a Blue Corner notice. A Blue Corner notice issued by Interpol helps countries collect and share information regarding a person's location and their activities as part of a criminal investigation.
