Mysuru, Jun 18: It was a day to cherish for hundreds of students at Government Higher Primary and High?School at Vinayakanagar (Paduvarahalli) on Friday. For, they had the privilege to get a peek into the history of Mysuru, with none other than the scion of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar donning the role of a teacher for the day.
The bespectacled Yaduveer, with a chequered shirt and waist coat, very much looking like a professor,' with the help of power-point presentation, narrated the rich history in the 20-minute session. Yaduveer, with his near chaste Kannada and a smattering of English, did the job with ease, to the applause of students.
The programme titled Learn from the?Maharaja' was organised by NGO?Kalisu Foundation, with cab aggregator Uber. Under a pandal erected on the school premises, Yaduveer - beginning from princely rule to the geographical indicators (GI) products of Mysuru - touched upon various aspects like Mysuru Palace, Mysuru Dasara, Mysuru Mallige (jasmine), genesis of Mysuru and Karnataka.

Explaining about Mysore Pak', an eponymous sweetmeat that still tickles taste buds, Yaduveer said, “it was a cook at the palace kitchen who experimented with the sweetmeat during the regime of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. Hence, it was named Mysore Pak.” The students were all excited when colourful pictures of Mysuru Palace, Mysuru Dasara, Jamboo Savari, torchlight parade among others were screened. Prior to it, Yaduveer tested the intelligence quotient of students with a quiz competition.
In an interaction session, Yaduveer came across a poser; “How did you become maharaja?”. Smiling, Yaduveer said “I?don't know how I became maharaja”. He later explained, how he was adopted by Pramodadevi Wadiyar and the events that led to his new role as the titular head of the erstwhile royal family. To another query, Yaduveer said, he has completed BA in Economics and English at Boston University, USA and wants to pursue MBA.
Founder of Kalisu M?M?Nikhilesh said that the Foundation had six schools in Mysuru and three in Srirangapatna.
