Lucknow, May 4: The violence and barbarism unleashed by the activists of Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) in Uttar Pradesh in recent days has triggered alarm bells among state BJP leaders, who believe that non-BJP Hindutva group is harming the image of the government.

Pehlu-Khan
HYV activists had recently lynched an old Muslim man to death in UP’s Bulandshahar district allegedly for protecting two lovers of different communities from the vigilantes.

The seniors voiced their unease about the dominance of HYV, an outfit formed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, at the state BJP executive committee meeting.

Ghulam Ahmed, a resident of Sohi village in the district, was beaten to death by suspected members of the outfit on Tuesday.

The police on Wednesday arrested 14 people in connection with the lynching. Incidentally, it was not the first time that HYV activists had turned murders since Adityanath assumed charge of the state in March.

They had earlier publicly assaulted a Muslim youth and dragged him to the police station, accusing him of what they termed love jihad.

Last month, scores of HYV activists had barged into a church in Maharajganj district during a prayer and assaulted the priests, saying they were “forcing'” people to convert to Christianity.

Back-stabbers, beware

State BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya, while addressing the executive committee meeting, dropped enough indication that he was referring to HYV when he said that some people who were not part of the BJP were trying to sideline genuine party workers and bringing a bad name to the government.

“Any attempt to sideline genuine workers will not be tolerated... we will not allow outsiders to push our workers behind... we will not spare back-stabbers,” Maurya said at the meeting, which concluded on Tuesday. Though Adityanath was present when Maurya made the remarks, he chose to remain silent.

State BJP sources said that similar concerns had been aired during the party leaders’ meeting with RSS?functionaries here a few days ago.

College boy held in lynching case

The Alwar police on Tuesday detained a 17-year-old boy in connection with the Pehlu Khan lynching case. The accused was identified on the basis of a video footage, which had gone viral following the attack, said the police.

In the video, the accused, who is a Class 12 student, could be clearly seen assaulting Khan. OnApril 1, Khan and four others were assaulted when they were transporting cows.

New Delhi, Nov 29: The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday said that it has filed a charge sheet against two accused -- Mohamed Shariq, who prepared the pressure cooker IED and Syed Shariq who provided material for the explosive -- in connection with the pressure cooker blast that took place in Karnataka's Mangaluru in November last year.

A NIA official here said that the agency filed the charge sheet against the two before a court on Wednesday.

The official said that Shariq and Syed, along with an online handler, had planned the explosion as part of a conspiracy to establish a Caliphate.

"In pursuance of the conspiracy, Mohamed Shariq had prepared the pressure cooker IED and Syed Yasin had provided material support for the explosive," the official said.

Mohamed Shariq was carrying the pressure cooker IED in an auto-rickshaw when it exploded on November 19 last year. The official said that he had planned to plant the IED at Kadri Manjunatha Temple in Mangaluru, with the aim to spread terror among the Hindu community but the low intensify bomb accidentally exploded on the way.

The case was filed by the NIA on November 23 last year under several sections of the IPC and the Explosive Substances Act.

Shariq was arrested by the NIA in July 2023, along with his co-accused Syed Shariq.

The official pointing out the role of Shariq in other cases said that he had first come on the radar of the security forces in November 2020 when he was arrested by the state police for pro-terror graffiti in Mangaluru city.

"He and his associates had put up the graffiti in support of the global terror outfit, the IS," the official said.

"Subsequently, Shariq was also named in the Shivamogga IS Conspiracy Case of 2022, in which so far 10 accused have been arrested," the official stated.

Of the 10 arrested, nine, including Shariq and Syed Yasin, were charge sheeted on June 30 this year for radicalising and recruiting gullible Muslim youth, raising funds, and conducting a trial blast to further the anti-India activities of the IS.

Bengaluru, Nov 23: The data of the ‘Socio-Economic and Education Survey’, popularly known as caste census, is “safe” and “intact”, according to K Jayaprakash Hegde, chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes.

His clarification comes following the emergence of documents suggesting that the original report of the caste census is missing from the office of the Commission.

Kicking up a storm, the BJP questioned the credibility of the caste census that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wants to take forward.

In October 2021, when the BJP was in power, Hegde had written to the government stating that neither the main report nor a photocopy was available in sealed boxes that were opened.

He also brought to the notice of the government that the signature of the member-secretary was missing from the available documents.

In August 2022, a letter was written to Transport Secretary Dr N V Prasad who was the member-secretary of the Commission when the caste census report was finalised. The letter sought Prasad’s response to his missing signature. In this letter, too, the Commission states that the original report and its photocopy were not available in its office.

“It is baffling to note that after spending crores of tax payers’ money to prepare this caste census report, we do not have the original copy,” BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal said in a tweet and asked if the government had filed a police complaint or acted against officials responsible for this.

Former BJP MLA V Sunil Kumar asked the Congress government to clarify before the start of the winter session of the legislature on December 4. “If a government document has gone missing, did someone steal it? Will the government get a fresh report done?” he said.

But according to Hegde, the caste census data is not missing. “The data is 100% correct and intact. The data has the signature of the then chairperson, members and member-secretary. The data has been uploaded safely in our software developed by the BEL,” he said.

Hegde explained that the caste census has two parts -- the data and a resultant report. “In the report comprising recommendations that had to be given to the government, some worksheets are missing,” he said.

The BJP also taunted the Congress for being divided. “In this government, the CM and DyCM have different stands. Who should people believe?” Kumar said while Yatnal accused the Congress of “orchestrating this spectacle” for the Lok Sabha polls.
