
Mangalore, Jan 27: Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress committee president Mithun Rai said that the committee members would undertake 'Vidya Sahaya Hasta' for a period of 13 days from January 27 to February 8, with the intention of providing information about the Right to Education (RTE) Act to poor children in the district.
Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, he said that there were a total of 1,994 seats reserved for underprivileged children in 160 private schools in the district. As part of the Vidya Sahaya Hasta programme, members of youth congress committee will provide information about the RTE Act, vacant seats available in nearby schools and necessary documents required to be submitted while applying for the seats, he said.
He said that the applications of eligible children would be taken into consideration and efforts would be made to provide them education.
When questions were raised about the flex banners featuring the president of the youth congress posing a danger to motorists on the city roads, he said that he would ensure that all banners would be taken down by Monday evening.
