Udupi, Jun 18: A 23-year-old man was shot dead during a hunting expedition last night at Myakodu near Halageri village in Udupi district.

According to sources, Prashant was invited for hunting expedition by his friend and neighbour Ankith Shetty (23), son of Seetarama Shetty.
The duo had entered a jungle near Myakodu. At around 2 a.m. a bullet hit Prashant on the chest and he collapsed on the spot. Even though Ankit rushed him to a hospital, Prashant succumbed to his injuries on the way.
It is suspected that a bullet emerged from Ankit's gun might have penetrated into Prashant's chest. Police have taken Ankit into custody and started an enquiry to find out whether it was a case of murder or an accidental fire.
Meanwhile, in his statement to police, Ankit has blamed a group of unidentified people for the tragedy. He stated that when he and Prashant were in the forest, they saw a group of four to five persons. “One among them shot at Prashant. Soon, the group fled in a car,” he said.
