Bengaluru, May 17: The number of doctors in Karnataka legislative assembly has reduced from 11 to 10 after 2018 polls. In fact over two dozen doctors had contested the May 12 Assembly elections. However, only 10 among them have registered victory.
Among the 10 doctors six MLAs are from the Congress, three from BJP, and one from JD(S).
The State unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) had supported all doctor candidates irrespective of the parties they contested from.
Following are the doctors who have made it to the Assembly: Ashwath Narayan (MBBS), Shivaraj Patil (General Medicine), Bharath Shetty Y. (Dentist), K. Sudhakar (MBBS), H.D. Ranganath (Ortho), Anjali Hemant Nimbalkar (Gynaecologist), Yathindra (Pathologist), K. Srinivasmurthy (MBBS), Umesh Jadhav (General Surgery), and Ajay Dharam Singh (MBBS).
Last time, 11 doctors made it to the Legislature, including outgoing Ministers Sharanprakash R. Patil and H.C. Mahadevappa. The other doctor legislators were Shivraj Patil, Makbul S. Bhagwan, Vishwanath Patil, Ashwath Narayan, Srinivas Murthy, Sudhakar Reddy, Ajay Singh, A.B. Malakareddy, and Umesh G. Jadhav.
