Mangaluru, Aug 19: The Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Union Ltd (DKMUL) of the Karnataka Milk Federation is sending a total of 1.20 lakh liters of ‘Trupti’ brand milk to flood-battered Kerala. The major share of the expense will be paid by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
The NDDB has decided to purchase the Trupti brand milk from DKMUL at a concessional rate and distribute it among flood victims. Trupti milk can be consumed without boiling. BV Sathyanarayana, managing director, DKMUL, said that the NDDB has requested them to send long shelf life milk to Kerala.
“We despatched 20,000 litres of milk on Friday and 17,000 litres of milk on Saturday. Another another consignment of 16,000 litres will be sent on Sunday through Coast Guard in their ship,” he said.
A non-government organisation also has requested the DKMUL to provide milk for relief operations. In total the union will be sending 1.20 lakh litres of long shelf life milk to Kerala.
