Kasargod, Dec 19: Around 18 sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs.2.45 lakh in cash were stolen from two houses in the district in the weekend.

The burglars broke into the locked house of Beefathima, a resident of Alampadi locality falling under the Vidyanagar police station, and decamped with 12 sovereigns of gold ornaments along with Rs. 35,000 in cash, the police said.
The miscreants gained entry into the house by breaking open the rear side doors.
The family members had gone to a nearby house to take part in a marriage ceremony late Saturday.
In the other incident, burglars broke into the house of Harris, a resident in Sanchikadavu locality falling under the Adhur police station, in the early hours of Sunday and looted Rs.2.10 lakh in cash along with six sovereigns of gold ornaments.
Mr. Harris, along with his family, was away in Mangaluru on a short visit.
The police have registered cases in connection with incidents.
