According to the police, the deceased is Harsha Jagadish, a resident of Srinagar. He was studying diploma in mechanical engineering at PES College. Harsha lived with his parents Jagadish and Lakshmi, who supply chapathis to restaurants.

On Tuesday, around 1 pm, Harsha was walking on the road near Water Tank Park, close to PES?College, when four youths on two motorcycles attacked him. The gang took to heels as a crowd gathered, said the police.

Harsha, who was stabbed in the back, did not realise that the injury was serious. He walked towards his college and one of his friends noticed blood oozing out of the wound. His friends took him to a nearby private clinic where he was given first aid and shifted to Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences as the bleeding could not be stopped. Harsha's friends then informed his father.

The doctors found that the stabbing had caused injuries to his spinal cord and lungs. Harsha's condition worsened and he was shifted to Jayadeva Hospital, where the doctors alerted the police. By the time the police arrived to record his statement, Harsha succumbed to his injuries around 11 pm, the police said.

“The Hanumanthanagar police visited the spot. The reason for the attack is not known and investigation is on. Harsha's friends say the attack could be a result of an old rivalry or financial dispute. CCTV footage from nearby buildings is being gathered and information is being obtained from the people who witnessed the incident. Harsha's parents are also clueless and are not in a condition to speak,” said a senior police officer.

Hanumanthanagar police have registered a case.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
