Mangaluru, Nov 30: The officers of customs at Mangaluru International Airport seized two kilo grams of gold worth nearly Rs 53 lakh on Saturday.

The bag containing gold was kept on the floor beneath row chairs adjacent to the Flemingo Duty Free Shop situated in the arrival hall of Mangaluru International Airport.
The bag was allegedly brought by passenger Abdul Manaf Akkoth aged about 26 years, a resident of Madavoor in Kozhikode district, who arrived at the airport at 8.40 a.m. by Jet Airways Flight No. 9W531 from Dubai.
Two persons who work at Airport named Ratheesh of Flemingo Duty Free Shop and B S Nijeesh Raj, who is working as a Salesman in two firms i.e., Words & Worth Book Shop as well as Teaicoff Snack Bar allegedly helped him in this smuggling, according to Udayashankaran N, Assistant Commissioner, of customs(airport), Mangaluru.
Ratheesh and Nijeesh Raj are from South Kerala. All the three accused have been arrested and produced before a court on Sunday. They were remanded into judicial custody. Further investigation is under progress.
