Even though Bushra’s in-laws strongly argued that she committed suicide for unknown reasons, her parents and relatives accused them of killing and then hanging the woman.

Sources said conflicts over dowry led to the incident. It is also said that injury marks were found on the dead body.

The victim, a mother of a one-year-old girl, had married Irfan (30) about two years ago. Soon after the wedding, differences started cropping up between the couple regarding the amount of dowry, source said.

As soon as the news of ‘alleged dowry killing’ began to spread on Monday evening, family members and relatives of the woman, along with the villagers stormed the house of Irfan and created ruckus. A few among them even manhandled Irfan.

However, sleuths from Bantwal Town Police Station rushed to the spot on time and resorted to mild baton charge to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control.

Bantwal ASP Rahul Kumar, Circle Inspector Belliyappa visited the spot. Additional police have been deployed in the area as part of precautionary measures. More details awaited.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
