Bengaluru, Dec 14: In the first phase of Akshaya Patra Foundation’s school rejuvenation programme, 100 schools in rural and semi-urban areas from across India will get a makeover. It will be scaled up to 500 schools in the second phase.
The initiative, School and student transformation – A model school initiative’, was launched by the titular head of the Mysore royal family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, at the Government Lower Primary School, Ravindranagar, in north Bengaluru on Thursday.
Schools in Bengaluru (Karnataka), Rourkela and Puri (Odisha), and Vrindavan (Uttar Pradesh) have been shortlisted.
The aim is to create an enviro nment that will enhance the impact of education by focusing on infrastructure development, quality of education and community engagement. The foundation wants to create a sustainable and replicable model that will serve as a template for other schools.
Akshaya Patra has equipped the Ravindranagar school with a new compound wall, CCTV cameras, safe food storage facility, hand-wash stations, kitchen garden and zero maintenance bio-toilets. Vegetables from the garden will be used to prepare food for anganwadi children on the school premises. Students will also get a multilingual library and English coaching.
