Belagavi, Apr 23: Rescue operations are on in full swing at Junjarwad village in Athani taluk of Belagavi district where a six-year-old girl fell into an open borewell on Saturday.
The girl identified as Kaveri Ajit Madar fell into the disused borewell while she was reportedly playing near it along with another child. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on the farmland of Shankar Hipparagi. Her parents came to know only after the panic-stricken playmate informed them. The girl is reportedly stuck at a depth of around 30 feet in the 400-ft borewell, and is crying for help.
Aigali Station police, officials of the Fire and Emergency Services, revenue officials, including Chikkodi sub-division Assistant Commissioner, Geeta Koulagi, are at the spot where rescue operations are on. Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram and Superintendent of Police Ravikanthe Gowda have also rushed to the spot.
Mr. Gowda said the incident occurred when the children had gone to fetch firewood. Sources revealed that the NDRF from Hyderabad had been called to help in the rescue operation.
