9 passengers arrested for creating trouble on Mangaluru Express, 2 get bail

Mangaluru, Feb 27: As many as nine passengers have been booked for creating trouble on board Chennai Central Mangaluru Express recently. Among them seven have been remanded to judicial custody while two others have been released on bail.

On February 21, the on-duty train ticket examiners (TTEs) of train No.12685 Chennai Central - Mangaluru Express, D Rajasekaran, Rajeswar Meena, Carl Max and Pradeep Kumar received complaints that a few passengers of S-11 coach, were creating nuisance to other passengers. They were in an inebriated state. They rushed to the coach and tried to reason with the trouble makers.

However, as they were in no mood to listen and tried to attack the other passengers and TTEs, the TTEs alerted the RPF/GRP staff in Triuppur station and the trouble makers were asked to alight.

A written complaint was lodged with the GRP in Tiruppur. Based on that, an FIR was filed against the offenders, Prem, Gopinath, Prithviraj, and six others, under Cr. No.28/2016 75 (i)b TNCP Act & 506(i) IPC R/W 145 (b) IR Act.

The accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate-V, Coimbatore, who ordered for the release of two offenders - Balasubramaniyam, 46 and Prabakaran, 39 on bail and remanded the remaining seven persons to judicial custody at Central Prison, Coimbatore, for a period of 15 days.

The railways requested passengers not to cause nuisance and disturbance to co-passengers, failing which the on board staff will take action against them. Passengers can call the security helpline No. 182 for immediate assistance in cases of nuisance by co-passengers, theft or any other security breach cases.

They can also call the officer on special duty (OSD) or chief commercial manager (CCM), Southern Railway, on 90031 60969.

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru CEN police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly posting provocative and misleading content on an Instagram page named “mr_a_titude”, targeting the Bajpe police.

Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy C H identified the arrested as Abhishek M, a resident of Katipalla in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe Police Station under Sections 353(1)(c), 353(2), 56, and 57 read with Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the post.

According to police, the accused uploaded a photograph of a hotel on the Instagram page and alleged that accused persons in a murder case under the Bajpe police jurisdiction were being given “royal treatment” by the police, including being served beef meals daily from the hotel.

The post further accused the police of supporting criminals, misusing their authority, and betraying public trust. Police said the content was provocative in nature and aimed at inciting public outrage against the police.

Following the post, a case was registered at the Bajpe police station, and further investigation was transferred to the CEN police station.

Police records indicate that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, and robbery at the Surathkal Police Station, and one case at the Kaup Police Station.

The Commissioner said the accused was traced and arrested using technical evidence.
