Bantwal, Apr 18: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest at the toll gate at Brahmarakootlu on Mangalore-Bangalore national highway on Friday, after it was found that higher toll was being collected illegally from passing vehicles despite an order from the deputy commissioner few days ago not to hike the toll fee.

In the protest, the protestors urged the national highway authorities and toll collectors to lower the toll fee, and urged the deputy commissioner to bring the toll fee down to its original fee.

Speaking to few reporters during the protest, AAP candidate for DK Lok Sabha constituency M R Vasudev condemned the contractors of the four-laning project of the national highway for collecting a higher toll from passing vehicles. The deputy commissioner of the district had given an order after a protest from AAP members of April 1, to lower the toll fee. However, the toll-gate officials have been continuing to collect exorbitant toll fee from vehicles, he said, explaining the reason for their protest.

He urged that the NHAI officials to erect a board by the toll plaza informing the toll payers of the correct toll fee.
