AAP launches 'Nanoo Janasaamaanya' campaign in Karnataka; nomination process of L S poll candidates underway

Bangalore, Jan 12: The Karnataka unit of the Aam Aadmi Party has launched 'Nanoo Janasaamaanya' (Main Bhee Aam Aadmi) campaign in the state as part of the party's national membership drive.

Addressing a press conference in?Bangalore on?Saturday, AAP?National Executive member Prithvi Reddy said the process of nominations of candidates for the 28 Lok?Sabha constituencies in the state was also underway.

“The State unit of AAP?has nearly one lakh members and functioning units in all districts, he said. Those interested can give a missed call to 07798220033 to enrol as AAP members,” he said.

Those without a mobile phone too can become members by providing their voter identity card that will be captured by the party volunteers on the membership form,?Reddy said. The membership drive will be on till January 26.

The party on Saturday also launched the candidate nomination process for the Lok?Sabha polls. Reddy said after receipt of the nominations there will be primary scrutiny and all the applicant names will be uploaded on the website for comments/feedback.

A State Screening Committee will verify the veracity of the information provided by the prospective candidates. Then, a consultation process by the local district teams would be taken up.

The State screening committee will shortlist names of three candidates per parliamentary constituency. These names shall be sent for the final selection by Political Affairs Committee,?Reddy explained. The nomination process will be on till January 31.?Each candidate will have to secure 100 signatures from voters of their constituency to vouch for his or her character and conduct.

Reddy expressed confidence that the party would win a good number of seats in the Lok?Sabha polls as people were looking for a political alternative. He added that the party is likely to contest in ten to twelve seats in the State.

He said AAP has started the process of recruiting booth level volunteers to carry out door-to-door campaigns. Booth level volunteers can register with AAP's respective district contacts at www.aapkarnataka.org or by sending an email to [email protected].

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
