Mangalore, Oct 27: Dozens of people staged a peaceful protest in front of police station in Konaje on the outskirts of the city on Monday evening demanding the arrest of Bajrang Dal activists, who allegedly abducted a Christian girl nearly two weeks ago and forced her to marry a Hindu youth.
The protesters also demanded protection for the girl, who managed escape from the clutches of her'husband' Roshan Shetty, four days after the forced marriage and filed a case against several Bajrang Dal activists.
The agitators alleged that when people began to realize the fact that'love-jihad' was a hoax created by anti-social and anti-national elements, the Sangah Parivar resorted to cheap tactics like abduction.
Addressing the protesters Anwar Sadath, Chairman, Creative Foundation, said that Sangh Parivar had twisted the meaning of Arabic word'jihad'(struggle or strive) by prefixing the English word love. œLove Jihad is completely a creation of enemies of Muslims and enemies of this country. Islam has nothing to do with it, he said.
He recalled that Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Jagadish Shenava in front of same police station had used abusive and derogatory words against Muslims and held them responsible for missing girls in Hindu community. However, the truth came to light when a Hindu teacher by name Mohan was arrested, he said.
Mr Sadath lamented that all local Hindu outfits had held Muslims responsible for all the missing Hindu women who had been raped and murdered by serial killer cyanide Mohan.
Comparing Sangh Parivar to a terrorist organization, he said that from the assignation of Mahatma Gandhi to the recent terror attack against Samjhauta Express, the saffron groups have carried out hundreds of riots and terror attacks through the country.
PFI DK district president Atavulla A M, Pavoor Gram Panchayat member Valerian D'souza, PFI activist Hanif Katipalla, SDPI state committee member Alphonso Franko, Jaffer Sadiq Faizi were present among the protesters. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the police.
After the woman lodged a complaint last week, Konaje police registered cases against five Bajrang Dal activists under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty); 147 (punishment for rioting); 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly,); 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage, etc.); 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement.); 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt.) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation.).
The victim, a resident of Elyarpadavu, about 15km from here, also revealed that Jagadeesh Shenava, president, Mangalore district unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, had threatened to harm her parents if she didn't marry the activist.
