As known to all, followers of Jainism are strict vegetarians.
In such a scenario, the Jain community has been unhappy with the fact that Mr Jain has been given a portfolio that does not agree with his religious beliefs.
With this background, the community leaders have been demanding Mr Jain to give up the portfolio in lieu of some other portfolio which will suit him better.
These feeling were reflected by many during a civic felicitation programme organized for Mr Jain in Moodabidri recently.
However, replying to the felicitation and to the majority feeling of his community members, Mr Jain too hinted his agreement on the same.
“I am a Jain who believes in non-violence. Since the fisheries portfolio is undoubtedly against my religious beliefs, I will soon hand over this ministry,” said Mr Jain adding that respecting religious sentiment of any individual is a must.
“I have been bestowed with two ministries. I will pay my gratitude to the CM for having so much faith on me,” he said.
