Bhatkal, Mar 3: The anti-hijab agitation by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in Uttara Kannada district took a violent turn this week as a student was assaulted by the miscreants for not wearing saffron shawl in the college.

The victim has been identified as Jayant Naika, a student of BA 4th semester at the Government First Grade College in Bhatkal. His crime was that he did not care the ABVP activists' order to wear saffron shawl as part of ‘Kesari Shawl Abhiyan’ against hijab.
As he reached college without wearing saffron shawl on Wednesday, the ABVP activists surrounded him and thrashed him.
After the assault, the victim lodged a complaint against his classmate Abhishek and final year students Raghavendra, Jeevan, Sandeep, all ABVP activists.
Even before police could arrest them, the assaulters surrendered in the court, which granted them bail.
