Mangalore, Jun 24: Members of Akhila Bharathi Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a demonstration against the Karnataka government protesting inadequacy in supplying Pre University course text books.
The protesters said that even though the P U classes for the new academic year have already started, many students have not yet received their textbooks.
The agitators said that indifference of the state government is responsible for unavailability of the textbooks.
“About 9 lakh students in the state have been pursuing PU education. In view of this, approximately 45 lakh text books must have been available in the market. However, due to the negligence of the government, books are not yet made available. This has created chaos among students as well as lecturers” they said.
The protesters also threatened the government to intensify their agitation if the issue was not solved immediately. “ABVP takes up this issue seriously and demands the state government to take appropriate steps to provide the books at the earliest,” they stated.
Yathish Kumar, ABVP co-convener, DK, Ramesh K, unit organizing secretary, Mangalore, Anusha Kottari, state joint secretary, Karnataka, Chethan, urban secretary, Mangalore and others were present in the protest.
