Udupi, Jan 7: Demanding the State government to clear the confusion over the second year pre-university course syllabi, the Udupi district unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad staged a dharna in front of the Clock Tower here.
Addressing the protestors, Subramani D.S., organising secretary, said that the pre-university board was playing with the future of many students by announcing a change in the syllabi at the end of 2014-15.
Students of the second year pre-university course were in a quandary as their preparatory examinations were just a fortnight away.
The board had recently issued a circular directing teachers and students to prepare as per the NCERT syllabi and the circular also stated that question papers for the preparatory and the final examinations should be based on the NCERT syllabi.
The students were in no position to prepare as per the new syllabi, the protesters claimed.
They added that the board should withdraw its decision and announce it in the media. Even if the board wanted to change the syllabi from the next academic year, it should conduct a proper discussion on it and then take a decision.
If these measures were not taken, the organisation will intensify its agitation, Mr. Subramani said.
Shashank, Suraj, Manjunath, and Shivanand Nayak, ABVP leaders, were present. Later, the protestors submitted a memorandum at the taluk office.
