ACB won't weaken Lokayukta, asserts CM

Siddaramanahundi/Mysuru, Mar 26: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday that Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had been formed to ensure transparent and efficient administration and not to weaken the Lokayukta, as told by others.

Siddaramaiah was at his native Siddramanahundi in Mysuru taluk to attend the Siddarameshwara Swami jatra mahotsava.

The chief minister said that the ACB?will function as per the Karnataka Lokayukta Act (KLA), 1984 and Prevention of Corruption (PC)?Act, 1988. The Lokayukta institution will function without any changes, he reiterated.

According to the Act, Lokayukta can probe complaints against public servants, but not corruption cases involving them. The PC Act empowers police authorities to investigate corruption cases. One each of officers in the cadres of additional director general of police (ADGP), inspector general of police (IGP) and eight superintendents of police have been appointed to ACB, said Siddaramaiah.

The State government will also bring out a booklet containing details about ACB and distribute it among the leaders of the Opposition parties and citizens to give them a clarity, the chief minister added.

Answering a query, Siddaramaiah said that the State government was not creating any new institution. As many as 15 states, including Gujarat and?Rajasthan, where the BJP?government is in power, have already created ACB to check corruption, he said.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

• Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

• Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

• Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
