Mangaluru, Jan 4: In a major embarrassment to the local unit of Bharatiya Janta Party, the accused arrested in connection with the cold blooded murder of Deepak Rao, who is being projected as a Bajrang Dal activist, turned out to be the activists of Minority Morcha of the saffron party.

Bharatiya Janata Party has blamed Popular Front of India, Social Democratic Party of India, and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai for the murder. However, none of the six persons arrested in connection with the murder that took place at Katipalla in Mangaluru taluk on Wednesday has any connections with the above.

Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava in a press meet on Thursday claimed that Pinki Navaz, one of the main accused in the case, was a known activist of BJP Minority Morcha in the region.

Mr Bava also revealed that during last Karnataka state assembly elections Pinki Navaz had campaigned for local BJP candidate (Krishna J Palemar, who was defeated by Mr Bava). He said that Pinki Navaz’s brother Laden Ismaeel, and brother-in-law Mohammed Ali also were activists of BJP.

Mr Bava, without naming Mr Palemar, said that an impartial probe is needed to unmask the mastermind behind the murder. He also said that BJP will try to gain the political mileage from this coldblooded murder.

According to sources, at least three of the arrested and their family members were also supporters of BJP and they had campaigned for the saffron party in previous elections.
