Bengaluru, Sept 7: A city based advocate has filed a police complaint against Jnanpeeth award winner playwright Girish Karnad on Friday, for branding himself as an 'urban naxal' during an event in the city to mark the death anniversary of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh who was murdered last year.
In his complaint the lawyer Amruteesh alleged in his complaint that "naxalites are those who spread insurgency against the nation.
Naxalism is banned the country since 2009 with banning of CPI(Maoist) group.
Wearing such title on his body, Mr Karnad had supported the group.
Any supporters, followers or sympathisers of this group are liable to be punished under Unlawful Activities (Prohibition) act and urged the police to register an FIR and act against MR Karnad and investigate his connection with naxalism, if any".
