Rajesh Poojary, a former Sangh Parivar activist and an auto-rickshaw driver was hacked to death near the autorickshaw stand at Kalpane in Bantwal on March 18.
Though the police have arrested three youth from Mallur village in connection with the murder, there is a clamour that they were innocents and that police have deliberately fixed them in the case.
The family members of the three arrested youth in connection with this case had staged a series of protest in Mangalore and Bantwal under the banner of Democratic Youth Federation of India. They had even tried to lay siege to the house of District-in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai. The demand of the protest was to release the innocents and reinvestigate the Rajesh Poojary murder.
Taking serious cognizance of the issue Superintendent of Police of DK had reportedly written to the Inspector General of Police expressing his opinion to hand over the case to the CID.
