Bengaluru, Sept 17: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah, who returned to the city yesterday from a 12-day Europe trip, has taken up the responsibility to douse the discontent among party legislators and make sure that the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in the state functions smoothly.
After two rounds of meetings with State Congress leaders on Sunday, AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal asked Siddarmaiah, who is also the head of the coordination committee of the coalition government, to hold talks with the disgruntled Jarkiholi brothers and convene a meeting of party legislators, if necessary.
Being seen as close to Siddaramaiah, the Jarkiholi brothers have been sulking with the party leadership after facing a setback in the PLD Bank elections following Belagavi Rural MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar’s candidates winning the top posts.
Meanwhile, Satish Jarkiholi told reporters in Belagavi that he and his brothers will not bring about the fall of the coalition government. “But if some other Congress MLAs bring down the government, we will not be responsible for it,” he added.
He said that he would meet the Siddaramaiah if he were to call them to Bengaluru.
He said that the Jarkiholi brothers had no plans to resign or motivate others to resign. “We want the government to survive and complete its term. We have had differences with some party leaders in the past, but those issues are resolved now,” he said.
