Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the controversial event, he said that the Samajotsav was a celebration of the Hindu religion and community held with the intention of uniting all Hindus and there was no question of insulting or causing disrespect to any persons during the event.

“Our Hindu brethren from all towns, villages and corners of the district are requested to attend the programme and participate in the celebrations. The main intention of the Samajotsav is to unite all Hindus and we are not against any religion,” he said, adding that over one lakh people were expected to participate in the mega event.

He said that the environment in the city was peaceful ahead of the Samajotsav and the organisers had taken all necessary measures to ensure that the event was held smoothly without any disruption of peace. No person will be disturbed by the Samajotsav, he assured.

Arrangements have been made for around 400 buses to transport participants to the venue of the event and volunteers will take part in the Shobha Yatra that will begin sharp at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday, he said, adding that a leader had been appointed to every bus that will transport Hindus to the venue to ensure that no provocative or untoward incidents took place.

General Secretary of the committee Jitendra Kottary said that arrangements had been made to provide drinking water to one lakh people at the venue, and around 5,000 seats would be arranged for VIPs, the elderly and disabled to be seated in the maidan.

He requested all volunteers and VHP members not to be a reason for any untoward incidents or retaliate to provocative incidents before or following the Samajotsav. The arrangements made by the district administration such as CCTV cameras, video cameras and increased police deployment should be looked at as part of security measures and not from the viewpoint of peace-disrupting activities, he said.

Mr Rao said that Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade would preside over the Samajotsav while Udupi Pejawar Mutt Seer Vishwesha Theertha Swami would bless the occasion. Sadhvi Balika Sarasawati Mishra will deliver the keynote address at the Samajothsav.

VHP district president Jagadish Shenava, M B Puranik and others were present during the press conference.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
