Al-Barakah housing colony inaugurated: houses handed over to poor families

Uppinangady, Dec 9: Al- Barakah Charitable Trust, Mangaluru handed over four houses out of the total 23 houses built with the Zakaat money collected by the organisation at Safa Nagar, Uppinangady to poor families at a programme held here on Sunday.

Title deeds of the houses were handed over to Safiya, Basheer, Ashraf and Fouzia on the occasion.

Speaking after handing over official documents of the houses to beneficiaries, khateeb of Bajpe Jumma Masjid Haji Abdul Razaq Madani said that the donor organisation had taken a humanitarian initiative by constructing homes for the poor.

Speaking on the occasion, DK zilla panchayat member Keshava Gowda said that providing a basic need such as shelter to the poor was a service rendered to the society and this should inspire others to take up similar work.

Uppinangady gram panchayat president Nalini Shetty said that it was a noble task to serve the less-privileged people in the society and provide them with facilities out of one's income.

Retired police officer Mohammed, businessman Balakrishna Shetty, M B Nazeer, Chandrahas Shetty and others also spoke on the occasion.

Mulki Jumma Masjid committee president Iqbal, Ashraf Subai, Ashraf Bajpe from Al-Barakah, Mohammed Haaris Bajpe and Mohammed Ashfaq Bajpe were present in the programme.

Uppinangady gram panchayat member Abdul Rahman welcomed the gathering, while Abdul Hameed compered the programme.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

Udupi, Dec 15: What was meant to be a post-pilgrimage gathering turned tragic in Padukere village of Brahmavar taluk, Udupi district, late Sunday night, when a clash among youths escalated into a fatal assault, leaving one man dead.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Santosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place during a late-night drinking party involving a group of local youths who had recently returned after completing their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine. An argument reportedly broke out among the group and soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the ensuing brawl, Santosh Mogaveera was allegedly assaulted and collapsed at the spot after sustaining serious injuries. He was rushed by local residents to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him dead.

On receiving information, senior police officials, including Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Police Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T, Station ASI Manthesh Jabagoudar, and head constables Pradeep and Ashok, visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Police have taken four youths into custody in connection with the incident. A case has been registered at the Kota police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the death.
