Amaco MPL: Selection of players under ‘C’ category on Sept. 13

Mangaluru, Sep 8: As part of the selection of team members in 12 participating cricket teams in Amaco Mangalore Premier League (MPL) 2015, there will be a selection process of cricket players under the ‘C’ Category, at Mangaluru and Udupi on Sunday, said Karnataka Regional Cricket Academy (KRCA) chairman Mohammed Sirajuddin.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the selection process for ‘A’ category and ‘B’ category players had been completed for the tournament, which is scheduled to be held from December 13 onwards. A total of 72 top cricket players have been finalised in ‘A’ Category and 60 players have been finalised in ‘B’ category.

The selection process for ‘C’ category players in the tournament will be held at two different venues in two districts. For players from Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts, the selection will be held at St Aloysius Centenary Ground in Mangaluru. For players from Udupi district, it will be held in MIT Ground in Manipal on Sunday, he informed.

He further said that a total of 100 players would be selected in the ‘C’ category for the final selection in the tournament. Any player above 16 years of age can come with their cricket kit and register at the venue between 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The final list of players in ‘C’ category will be announced on Monday, he said.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
