BJP’s “pro-farmer” rally in Karnataka comes amidst amidst ongoing protest by farmers across India against the alleged anti-farmer provisions in the Land Acquisition Bill, 2015 proposed by the Centre.

Nalin Kumar Kateel, the Dakshina Kannada MP and BJP leader told media persons on Tuesday that the Yatre would be held under the leadership of state BJP chief Pralhad Joshi on September 11 near Brahmashri Narayana Guru Mandir, B C Road in Bantwal.

Holding the chief minister Siddaramaiah and his team responsible for the endless suicide of farmers in Karnataka, Mr Kateel accused the Congress party of playing with the lives of farmers and poor people.

The Karnataka government has completely failed solve the problems faced by the farmers in the state and it has made no attempt to increase the morale of the hapless ‘kisan’.

“For the past three-four months, each and every day, we are hearing the news of farmers’ suicide in draught hit parts of the state. But ministers in Congress government are only concerned about their ministry,” he said.

He said that despite the Central government sanctioned Rs 6,000 crores to sugarcane farmers including around Rs 1,400 crores to Karnataka, the state government has failed to send an estimate of loss to the farmers and factories.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.
