Lucknow, Jun 5: The postmortem report of the two Badaun cousins who were raped stated they were hanged from a tree while they were still alive, said Badaun SSP Alok Saxena on Wednesday.
The barbaric nature of the sexual assault on the teens could be gauged from the fact that apart from innumerable abrasions, scratches and contusions on the arms, waist and upper abdominal area, the vital organs of the two victims were virtually covered in blood clots. Injuries inside and in the region of the vital organs confirmed they had been tortured before the accused tied ropes round their necks and hung them.
Investigating officer VP Sirohi, in charge of the Badaun Kotwali, said based on the autopsy reports, he has sought permission of the chief judicial magistrate to secure hair, blood, nail and swab samples of all five accused who have been arrested so far.
Officiating chief judicial magistrate Manoj Kumar has directed the IO to ensure that these samples are secured by a panel of doctors at the district hospital in line with the Supreme Court's directives.
"These samples will be sent for forensic examination along with the samples secured from injury marks and other parts of the victims' bodies. Once the DNA profiling is done, it will give a clear picture of which among the accused did what," Sirohi told TOI on Wednesday.
The bodies of two minor girls aged 14 and 16 were found hanging from a tree in Badaun last week. On the complaint of their family members, the police had arrested three Yadav brothers and two police constables. The incident has drawn widespread criticism over the failure of the Akhilesh government to check the spiraling crime rate in UP.
