Mangaluru, Nov 10: A hoax terror report produced' by a prominent Kannada daily newspaper on Sunday, caused panic among the residents of Puttur taluk in coastal district of Dakshina Kannada.
The sensational story carried by the daily on Page 11 in its Manipal edition on Sunday not only dubbed four innocent Indian nationals as Bangladeshis' but also depicted them as terrorists' for the simple reason that they were Muslims.

The prejudiced newspaper's baseless allegations comes after police questioned four labourers from West Bengal, residing in a rented house at Murra near Kabaka village in Puttur taluk, following a tip off by Sangh Parivar miscreants about the presence of few “outsiders”.

Expressing concern over the false report and baseless allegations against them published by a Kananda daily, they said that a few elements of Sangh Parivar might have passed the false information to police and media.
On the other hand, Dr Sharanappa S D, Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada district, has rubbished the Kannada daily's report and clarified that those who were questioned by the police were innocents.
He also clarified that no suspicious materials were found in the residence of the four labourers. “The police had been tipped of the presence of a few outsiders'. A team of police visited the spot and questioned the labourers, who were staying at a rented room, which belonged to an advocate,” he said, reiterating that all four were innocent labourers from West Bengal.
